It is always difficult to speak about yourself.

In Italy they say "ask to the host id the wine is good" to say that it is far too easy to present an image of yourself which is better than reality.

The real reason for our success is word of mouth: people comes, then they come again bringing with them more people. If they do it the reason is only one: the food is good and the atmosphere is warm and friendly.

In my restaurant I wanted to recreate the atmosphere of Italian festive days, when couples, whole families and groups of friends seat around a table and enjoy themselves.

The restaurant - pizzeria Capannina was born in 2001 in the heart of Kata based on an idea of Mario ..... to recreate a corner of Italy with the flavours of typical Italian cuisine. Here you can start your journey in search of authentic cuisine and its flavours in a warm and informal atmosphere.

Our goal for cooking is: daily fresh ingredients imported from Italy. So don't be surprised to find prosciutto di Parma aged 14 months or Parmigiano Reggiano aged for 36 .... Fresh home-made pasta, made with flour imported from Italy, such as ravioli stuffed with spinach and ricotta, Tortelloni, potato "Gnocchi" potato or Tagliatelle .... Behind every dish there is a long work of passion and love for cooking and tradition.

Your journey may begin from the antipiasti, discovering the freshness of a Lobster Catalan style or the simple flavours of a beef carpaccio. The pasta dishes offer the purely traditional flavours of Italian cuisine fit for the more sophisticated palates, such as risotto with cuttlefish ink, or the Bottarga Spaghetti with crab, cherry tomatoes and white wine. Mixed grilled fish and crustaceans or Cotoletta Milanese. The veal is imported from Australia like the rest of our meats.

The desserts are all home made and they deserve a try. Our warm chocolate cake has now become a must in Phuket. You can just try it and judge by yourself.

Pizza

That is the world of Mario!

For him, the pizza is the real passion.

Our oven is wood fired and was designed and built by Mario himself.

 

A good oven is the only guarantee of an excellent outcome: a pizza crust cooked to the right point and full of flavour. We have a choice of more than 30 pizzas, and different and unforgettable "Calzoni" ....

Here the traditional versions are interpreted at the highest level as in the pizza Capannina with Parma ham, flakes of parmesan cheese, cherry tomatoes and rucola, the fried calzone, or the pizza with bacon and taleggio ....

All pizzas are very big! If you are a group of friends or family - you can try our giant pizza: over 60 cm in diameter. You can have the pleasure to taste it in different flavours, or chose the flavours you like ...

Wine

All the wines are selected personally by us, without being influenced by fashion or trends of the moment, but choosing the best Italian wineries.

We have a choice of over 45 labels from all regions of Italy to satisfy even the most demanding customers.

All our wines are kept at a constant temperature to ensure their perfect preservation.

It will be for us a pleasure and a honour to advise you on a wine choice.

Menu

Why do so many expats and tourists constantly patronise Capannina? Because it delivers the goods, and at decent prices. The restaurant’s pizzas are famous island wide for their size. We ordered a Capannina pizza, that had a topping of parma ham, fresh tomatoes, rocket salad and parmesan and it was bulky enough for four people yet we were told that this was not the large version! Again, the rocket salad was more than generous as was the buffalo mozzarella and tomato.

However, the star of the show was the melanzane alla parmigiana – fried aubergine with tomato mozzarella and parmesan. This was almost a meal in itself, it was that large. Capannina also features homemade pastas and the ravioli burro e salvia featured delicious pockets of ricotta and spinach and sage with parmesan.

For families or groups of friends looking for a place to share dishes at reasonable prices there’s hardly a better location in Phuket. Just a glance around the neighbourhood confirmed Capannina’s popularity: Kata was quiet, some places deserted, whereas Capannina was buzzing and in haute service. And you can’t get better proof than that.
